Amazon FBA Fees 2026: Complete Guide with Examples

Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) fees in 2026 have two main parts: a referral fee (usually 15% of the sale price) and a fulfillment fee based on size tier, shipping weight and price band, plus a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge since 17 April 2026. On top of that you pay monthly storage, and possibly inbound placement, low-inventory, aged-inventory and returns fees. For a typical $30 standard-size product, expect Amazon to keep about a third of the price before advertising.

Key takeaways

  • Fulfillment fees changed on 15 January 2026 and now depend on price band: under $10, $10–$50 and over $50.
  • A 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to the fulfillment fee only, not referral or storage.
  • Holiday peak fulfillment fees run from 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027, and the surcharge stacks on top.
  • Storage costs about three times more per cubic foot in October–December than in January–September.
  • Cheap products lose the biggest share to fees, because the fulfillment fee is a flat dollar amount.

The full list of Amazon FBA fees in 2026

Here is every fee that can hit an FBA unit, in the order you'll usually meet them.

Fee When it's charged What drives it
Selling plan Monthly or per item Professional plan $39.99/month, or $0.99 per item on the Individual plan
Referral fee Every sale Category and sale price (most categories 15%, $0.30 minimum)
FBA fulfillment fee Every unit shipped Size tier, shipping weight, price band
Fuel and logistics surcharge Every unit shipped 3.5% of the fulfillment fee (since 17 April 2026)
Holiday peak fee 15 Oct 2026 – 14 Jan 2027 Higher per-unit fulfillment fee during peak
Monthly storage Monthly Cubic feet stored, season, size group
Storage utilization surcharge Monthly, some sellers Inventory volume compared with sales volume
Aged inventory surcharge Monthly Units stored more than 181 days
Inbound placement fee Per unit sent in Which shipment split option you choose
Low-inventory-level fee Per unit shipped Running low on stock compared with sales
Returns processing fee Per returned unit, some categories Return rate above the category threshold
Removal and disposal Per unit removed Size and weight

The referral fee and fulfillment fee are the big two. They apply to every sale, so they belong in your price from day one. The rest depend on how well you manage inventory.

FBA fulfillment fees in 2026

The fulfillment fee covers picking, packing, shipping to the customer, customer service and standard returns handling. Since 15 January 2026, the US rate card has three price bands. The band is set by the item's selling price.

Here are sample rates for standard-size, non-apparel, non-dangerous goods in the $10–$50 band (before the 3.5% surcharge and before peak fees):

Size tier Shipping weight Fee ($10–$50 band)
Small standard Up to 2 oz $3.32
Small standard 14–16 oz $3.96
Large standard Up to 4 oz $3.73
Large standard 12–16 oz $4.60
Large standard 1.75–2 lb $5.82
Large standard 2.75–3 lb $6.67
Large standard 3–20 lb $6.97 + $0.08 per 4 oz above 3 lb

How the other bands compare:

  • Under $10: large standard fees are $0.82 lower than the table above. A small standard item up to 2 oz is $2.43.
  • Over $50: large standard fees are $0.26 higher than the table above.

Bulky and extra-large items have their own, much higher rates. If you're not sure which tier your product falls in, read our guide to FBA size tiers and dimensional weight. Shipping weight for large standard and bigger items is the greater of the unit weight and the dimensional weight, so a light but bulky box can cost more than you expect.

The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge

From 17 April 2026, Amazon adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to the FBA fulfillment fee. On a $5.82 fee, that's about $0.20 more per unit. It doesn't apply to the referral fee or storage.

Holiday peak fees

From 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027, a higher peak fulfillment fee applies to each unit. The surcharge applies on top. Amazon publishes the peak amounts by tier, so check the Revenue Calculator for your ASIN. Plan your Q4 pricing with the peak rate, not the standard one.

Referral fees

The referral fee is Amazon's commission for the sale. It's a percentage of the total sale price (including any shipping or gift wrap the buyer pays), with a $0.30 minimum in most categories.

  • Most categories: 15%
  • Beauty, Health and Personal Care, and Baby: 8% if the total price is $10 or less, 15% above
  • Clothing and Accessories: 5% up to $15, 10% from $15 to $20, 17% above $20
  • Consumer Electronics: 8%
  • Automotive and Industrial: 12%

Some categories are tiered on the whole price, others only on the portion above a threshold. See our full Amazon referral fees by category table for every category and worked examples.

Storage fees

Amazon charges monthly storage based on the average daily volume of your inventory in cubic feet.

Size group January–September October–December
Standard-size $0.78 per cu ft $2.40 per cu ft
Oversize $0.56 per cu ft $1.40 per cu ft

To get cubic feet, multiply length × width × height in inches and divide by 1,728. A 9 × 6 × 4 inch box is 0.125 cu ft, so it costs about $0.10 a month to store from January to September and $0.30 a month from October to December.

Two extra charges can apply: the storage utilization surcharge (when you hold a lot of stock compared with what you sell) and the aged inventory surcharge (for units stored more than 181 days). Check your storage fee reports in Seller Central each month so these don't build up unnoticed.

Inventory and inbound fees

These fees depend on how you send and manage stock:

  • Inbound placement fee: charged per unit when you send inventory to fewer fulfillment centers than Amazon would like. Choosing Amazon's optimized split usually removes it, but costs more in freight.
  • Low-inventory-level fee: charged per unit shipped when your days of supply runs too low for both the short-term and long-term measure.
  • Returns processing fee: charged on returned units in categories where your return rate is above Amazon's threshold for that category. Apparel and shoes work differently. Check Seller Central for your categories.
  • Removal and disposal fees: charged per unit when you pull stock out or have it destroyed.

Also note that Amazon ended its FBA prep and labeling services in the US on 1 January 2026. You, your supplier or a prep center now handle labeling and prep before stock ships in.

We explain both inbound fees, and how to avoid them, in our guide to the inbound placement fee and low-inventory-level fee.

Worked example: what FBA really costs on a $29.99 product

Say you sell a kitchen gadget in Home and Kitchen for $29.99. The packaged box is 9 × 6 × 4 inches and weighs 1.9 lb.

Step 1: Find the shipping weight. Dimensional weight = 9 × 6 × 4 ÷ 139 = 1.55 lb. The unit weight (1.9 lb) is higher, so shipping weight is 1.9 lb. That's large standard, 1.75–2 lb band.

Step 2: Add up Amazon's fees (January–September, non-peak).

Cost line Amount
Selling price $29.99
Referral fee (15%) $4.50
Fulfillment fee (1.75–2 lb, $10–$50 band) $5.82
Fuel and logistics surcharge (3.5% of $5.82) $0.20
Storage (0.125 cu ft × $0.78, about one month) $0.10
Total Amazon fees $10.62
Fees as % of price 35.4%

Step 3: Add your own costs. Say landed product cost is $6.00 and freight to Amazon is $0.75 per unit.

Profit before ads = $29.99 − $10.62 − $6.00 − $0.75 = $12.62, a 42.1% margin.

That 42.1% is also your break-even ACoS (advertising cost of sales). If ad spend on a sale costs more than 42.1% of the sale price, that sale loses money. Use our Break-even ACoS calculator to turn this into a maximum bid.

Step 4: Check the same product at $9.99. Below $10, the large standard fee drops by $0.82 to $5.00, plus 3.5% = $5.18. The referral fee is $1.50. Fees alone now take $6.68, which is 67% of the price, before product cost. This is why many sub-$10 products only work as small, light items or in bundles.

Step 5: Re-run it for Q4. From October, storage on this unit triples to about $0.30, and the holiday peak fulfillment fee applies from 15 October. Pull the peak rate from the Revenue Calculator and re-check your margin before you plan holiday ad budgets.

Where to check your real fees in Seller Central

  • Fee Preview report: Reports > Fulfillment > Fee Preview. Shows the estimated referral and fulfillment fee per ASIN, plus the dimensions and weight Amazon uses.
  • Revenue Calculator: compare FBA with fulfilling orders yourself for any ASIN.
  • Payments > Transaction view: see the fees actually deducted on each order.

Check the Fee Preview after your first shipment is received. Amazon measures products itself, and if its dimensions are bigger than yours, you'll pay a higher tier on every unit.

Common mistakes with FBA fees

  1. Using last year's rate card. The 2026 price bands and the April surcharge changed the math. Recalculate every SKU.
  2. Forgetting dimensional weight. A light product in a big box pays for the box. Trim packaging where you can.
  3. Pricing just above a band. Moving from $9.99 to $10.49 pushes you into a higher fulfillment band and, in categories like Beauty, a higher referral rate. Check that the extra $0.50 actually covers both.
  4. Ignoring Q4 storage. Sending six months of stock in October means paying the $2.40 rate on all of it. Ship what you'll sell by year end.
  5. Not checking Amazon's measurements. Wrong dimensions on file can cost you a full tier on every sale. Request a re-measure through Seller Support if they look off.
  6. Leaving ads out of margin. Fees are only half the story. Know your break-even ACoS before you set bids.

Amazon's own fee overview is on its FBA pricing page.

Bottom line

In 2026, the FBA fulfillment fee depends on size, weight and price band, with a 3.5% surcharge on top and higher peak fees from mid-October. Add the referral fee and storage, and most $20–$40 products lose 30–40% of the price to Amazon before ads. Price every SKU with current numbers, keep packaging tight, and know your break-even ACoS before you spend on advertising.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Amazon take per sale with FBA in 2026?

For a typical $20 to $40 standard-size product, Amazon's referral fee plus the FBA fulfillment fee usually adds up to roughly 30% to 40% of the selling price. Cheap items lose a much bigger share because the fulfillment fee is a flat dollar amount. Add storage, inbound and advertising costs on top to see your true take-home.

Did Amazon FBA fees go up in 2026?

Yes. Amazon updated FBA fulfillment fees on 15 January 2026, added price bands (under $10, $10 to $50, over $50), and introduced a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on fulfillment fees from 17 April 2026. Holiday peak fees also apply from 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027.

Is the 3.5% fuel surcharge charged on the referral fee?

No. The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to the FBA fulfillment fee only. It does not apply to referral fees or storage fees.

Where can I see the exact FBA fee Amazon charges for my product?

Use the Fee Preview report in Seller Central (Reports, then Fulfillment) or the Revenue Calculator. Both use the dimensions and weight Amazon has on file for your ASIN, which can differ from what you entered, so check them after your first shipment is received.

Is FBA cheaper than shipping orders yourself?

It depends on size, weight and volume. FBA is usually competitive for small and light products because you get Prime eligibility and Amazon's shipping rates. For large, heavy or slow-moving products, storage and bulky fulfillment fees can make merchant fulfillment cheaper, so run both options through a calculator before deciding.
