How the plan is calculated

Safety stock = daily sales × safety days
Reorder point = daily sales × lead time + safety stock
Order quantity = daily sales × (lead time + days to cover) + safety stock − (available + inbound)

Frequently asked questions

What is a reorder point?

The reorder point is the stock level at which you should place your next purchase order. It equals daily sales × lead time, plus safety stock. When your available stock drops to that number, it is time to order.

How much safety stock should I keep for Amazon?

Many sellers keep 2 to 4 weeks of sales as safety stock, more for long sea-freight lead times or volatile demand. Running out on Amazon can cost organic rank, so the cost of too little is usually higher than the cost of a little extra.

What lead time should I use?

Use the full time from placing the order to units being available to sell at Amazon: production, freight, customs, any warehouse step and Amazon receiving. Sea freight often adds up to 60 to 90 days in total.

Does this account for Amazon capacity limits?

No. Check your FBA capacity limits in Seller Central before sending a large shipment, and consider holding stock in AWD or a 3PL if you are close to your limit.
